Emblem 17

Information and materials

This is a little story (a fraction of a story really), celebrating chance.
It’s written using my favourite pens – and it’s a glimpse of what it is to work on a text by hand, in a way that rarely happens for me now that I rely on computers.  Writing like this, on fine paper, is a sensual act, an act of memory, evocative.

The story is built around Sterne’s phrase ‘motly emblem of my work’.  And this is what my work is about, working and re-working words, discovering and re-using them, trying to make them seem new without losing the accumulated meanings that come from being old and worn.
